BC Ferries has a new boss, and he came from within the organization.
Chief Operating Officer Mike Corrigan takes the helm after December 31st, when David Hahn steps down.
Corrigan will only bring home 60% of his predecessor’s salary, and that’s not the only cost savings in store.
His old position is being eliminated.
He says the decision to eliminate the COO position was his alone.
And he says he wants to send out the message they are very serious about cost containment.
In all, the ferry corporation will $1.3 million with the moves.
It’s something NDP ferries critic Gary Coons is happy about.
Corrigan has been with BC Ferries since 2003, and previously worked for Westcoast Energy in BC and Ontario.
In the 1980′s he played professional hockey for the Detroit Red Wings.
